Calculating word counts and presenting assignments

As you know for an assignment you're required to write in the range 5,000-6,000 words. My advice is to write close to 6,000 as you need to achieve a narrow and deep focus in your writing so you need the words to achieve the depth. You're allowed a 10% overrun so the absolute maximum is 6,600.

The word count begins with the introduction (so excludes the title page, the contents page and the abstract). The word count ends with the last word of the conclusion (so excludes the bibliography and appendices if you have any).

If you include an abstract this should be approximately 250 words giving the overview of the assignment. It should have 3 searchable key words/phrases underneath. An abstract should follow the title page and contents page(s). Contents pages should give full details of main sections and sub sections together with page numbers.

Please can make sure that the title page contains these details:

· Your course

· Your name and student id number

· Module code and name

· Title of your assignment (15 words maximum)

· Name of your marking tutor

· Date of submission

All work should be presented in verdana 10 or 11 point font either 1.5 or double line spaced. Documents should have page numbers inserted.
